Nicola Moran is a contemporary circus artist with a BA in Fine and Applied Art from the University of Ulster, Belfast. She is deeply committed to researching both disciplines and finding innovative ways to merge them. Her work explores concept development through experimental conversations between body, form, and material.
As a director, producer, and programmer, Nicola Moran is the founder of POW Dundalk, now Piece of Work Arts Festival. It has now grown from a scratch night into a two-day programme of street performance, youth workshops, professional development, and experimental work.
She was previously Creative and Programme Director of Dublin Circus Project, where she designed and delivered social circus programmes for young people, asylum seekers, and participants with additional needs. Her training with Extraordinary Bodies UK informs her commitment to inclusive and accessible practice.
As a professional circus artist, Nicola has performed both nationally and internationally, working with companies such as Feathers Ensemble, Aerial Cirque, Luxe, and Twisted Lane Productions. Most recently, she performed as an aerialist in Rusalka with the National Opera.
Her work spans diverse environments from the landscapes of Connemara to the mountains of Greece and urban Dublin. Alongside her collaborations, Nicola creates and directs her own work. Notable projects include a durational performance on Grafton Street with Red Torc and large-scale works for the Brigit Festival, including a vertical dance piece on the GPO (2024) and a performance at Barnardo Square (2023).
Her work has been supported by Dublin City Council, Galway County Council, Louth County Council, the Arts Council of Ireland, Creative Ireland, and Culture Ireland.
Nicola originally specialised as a silversmith and previously worked in New York as a metalsmith for fashion house Artemas Quibble. Now, Nicola's pieces are handcrafted with love using time honoured skills. Her line has a strong yet minimal aesthetic that is socially driven. All of the jewellery pieces are made in-house and as much as she can, using only responsibly sourced and recycled materials. Nicola is registered for Fair Trade Gold.
